Adding Dial-up Nodes
This document explains how to use VADV32 with a BBS that also accepts dial-up users. These are not step-by-step instructions, but a set of guidelines you should follow.
Guidelines

Adding dial-up lines to a VADV32 installation is not much different than how you did it years ago. There are a few ways to do it, but this will help guide you toward the recommended way.

  • Highly recommended that all dial-up nodes are setup with node numbers after the telnet nodes. For example, telnet nodes would be nodes 1 through 10 and the first dial-up node would be node 11. It is not recommended that you run a dial-up node as node 1. If you do, VADV32 would have to be configured to let VADV handle daily maintenance, events and other essential features.
  • Go to VADV32's configuration, click the nodes tab and unselect "Telnet-Only System." You must do this in order for VADV32 to give you full control of the node setup.
  • Go to VADV's main configuration and set the number of active channels to the number of telnet nodes plus the number of dial-up nodes. Once you click OK, you will notice the list of nodes change.
  • Go to the channel configuration. It should automatically load to the first non-telnet node. Setup this node as your first dial-up node. Consult your modem's documentation for initialization string codes.
  • It is recommended you run a fossil driver for dial-up nodes. BNU and X00 are common choices.
  • To launch the node, from the command line run "BBS.EXE [node]". The node's WFC screen will load and if everything is configured correctly it will initialize the modem and be ready for incoming calls.
