  1. Things to check first. (Commonly forgotten VADV setup issues)

Here are some pointers that will make your VADV setup run more smooth:

    1) Make sure that the VADV main directory is in you path statement. In Win9x, you add it to your path statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. In Win2k/XP you add it to your path statement in your Environment Variables.

    2) Make sure that you are using PKZIP/PKUNZIP v2.04g only, and ARJ 2.41 only. Any other versions will not operate correct with Virtual Advanced. Remove any later versions from your path.

    3) I recommend that you do NOT use DSZ.EXE as your transfer protocol. If you have it ANYWHERE in your path, remove it. If VADV can find it then it may mess up network communications. I would use the default VXY protocol or a third-party protocol such as CEXYZ.

  2. When I post a message in a networked sub, they display locally but aren't sent out to other BBS's in the network.

First check to see if you have Validation turned on for that sub. That is configured in the sub's config screen in VCONFIG. If it is turned on then disable it. Also you can check to see if this is the case by looking at your WFC screen. If [Q] Validate is a different color, or if you press Q and it asks you to validate posts, then it is turned on.

  3. What are the proper init strings for Netmodem, COM/IP or Synchronet?

Download my MODEMS.CFG file here and place it in you VADV directory. The file contains proper init strings for all three programs.
