Third, there is no sysop for any of those 3. To me those 3 points > disqualifies them as being BBSes, they are simply overgrown webpages. True, This reminds me of a conversation I was having with a friend not too long ago. I proposed this this: If I used an Unreal Tournament or a Quake 3 Arena game engine to make a 3D BBS, what would qualify it as a BBS rather than a Game? After talking about this I wrote down some key componets of what a BBS "IS" So, in theory, you could turn any technology, like the web, into a bbs as long as you follow the below bill of rights: =============================================================================== = The BBS Bill of Rights =============================================================================== = 1. A BBS must be able to be set up and maintained by a single person in one's spare time. 2. A BBS is a system which is set up on a sys0p's own home computer hardware. 3. A BBS is a system that supports external programs such as doors, plug-in's or add-on's. 4. A BBS must be able to network with other BBS systems. 5. A BBS must include core programs such as e-mail, messaging, and file downloads. 6. A BBS must have text documentation. 7. A BBS must have multiple access points. Ex. packet modem, telnet, telephone, web, or 3d graphic. 8. A BBS must contain a list, and be able to connect, to other BBS's independent of internet search engines. 9. A BBS must promote intra-system and inter-system user interaction. 10. A BBS must support current technology as well as older technologies. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - EOF =============================================================================== = Just for fun :-b GalaxyNET Information Portal (A WEB BBS) Community - Creativity - Self Sufficiency http://www.galaxynet.servebbs.com |
