You join a few networks/groups and every day you wake up to new messages and a bunch of video's, music, and books of your taste via FTP dumps. This is not too hard and is already done on a small scale through Fido and UseNET. This would spell the end to Kazaa or limewire type networks Imagine having your own e-mail server. already done. Imagine a search engine ,like google, that searches thourgh networked BBS's file and message databases instead of the current internet. Imagine having a BBS instant messanger which is networked to 1000's of BBS systems and their users Imagine a real-time networked BBS systems list which you simply click on the system and it takes you there. To a web page or a telnet session. Synchro has this currently Imagine being able to click on an online user on a bbs and talk voice. There's quite a few of these, but the main point is technology has been directed to business models that favor a few. Think about it, Who has the largest bbs? The largest BBS is America Online, MSN.com, and Yahoo.com. These are BBS's. But not one's we can run on our home computer. Why not make a Yahoo.com or MSN.com that can support less users but can be run on a single X86 machine? Let me choose the plug-ins, news I want, files I want, everything I want, on my own computer? This can be done if the will and leadership is there. But Content Management Systems are not the way to go... Because they are not independant systems which can survive without internet search engines. just a few thoughts.. :-b GalaxyNET Information Portal (A WEB BBS) Community - Creativity - Self Sufficiency http://www.galaxynet.servebbs.com |
