As Godzilla ravaged the city, Black Fox shouted to 2honey Iris: > > > ... What is a person who hangs around musicians? A drummer. > > I resent that!!!!!!!!!!!!! > > Gee, I thought it was funny... Mind you, I do respect drummers. > What about a percussionist??? BF#@> well...percussionists are cool, i happen to be one... but the thing is BF#@> that drummers are very different, they're playing the same instruments, BF#@> but with a set you need COORDINATION, which is what will really make a BF#@> drummer... Co-ordination is needed, yes- but I find that (having played set AND individual percussion pieces), the percussionist must be more knowledgeable about technique- with a Doumbek, for instance, there about 11 different sounds you can get from just one drum. It takes LOTS of practice to be able to master these... A Bodhran is a bit different- there are two basic sounds, but the variety of beats you can play (with one hand, mind you) is just about limitless- you just have to learn how to translate them with a double-ended beater, which is hard to master what with the usual western concept of striking the head, as opposed to playing it in a brushing motion. The Tar is another animal as well, as you must play it with BOTH hands, while at the same time, holding it with ne of those hands- you cannot strap on a Tar. Just a few examples- but do not get me wrong- I play the drumset, and I do know what kind of co-ordination that takes! NCLE LIP Ľ Cum Dignitate Otium ...
