     I know this is from an old post but: Hendrix, Clapton and Page may not
read music, but Van Halen studied music in some gifted student high school
and had to turn in transcribed arrangements for his homework.
     There's an anecdote about how he brought in his arrangement of some
piece or another, and his teacher berated him in front of class for breaking
some or all the music theory rules.  So Eddie walked to the piano and blew
the class away, they erupted into applause.
     This was documented in some issue or another of _Guitar For the
Practicing Musician_.

     As far as the rest of the tab\traditional notation debate.  What's it
matter?
