There's an anecdote about how he brought in his arrangement of some piece or another, and his teacher berated him in front of class for breaking some or all the music theory rules. So Eddie walked to the piano and blew the class away, they erupted into applause. This was documented in some issue or another of _Guitar For the Practicing Musician_.
