Re: Perhaps, but what a hybrid of sorts combining the newer style But then... giving it a little more thought, and checking into webserver data a little better, most only need the addition of dial-up connection, and a way to track and sign up users. Currently they only offer access through pre-approved setup or wide-open access to all files in the root directory of there respective programs. And to say the least, my CGI adeptness is not adequate, now Javascript and HTML is pretty good, but nerver having anything to do with SSI might be a stumbling block as well, and my ISP blocks port 25, so a mail server is out from the get go. And I still have the hurdle of DNS to get through, complicated by a dynamic IP and an uncooperative ISP on that end, 30 minutes max of idle time even if running a script to refresh a page every 5 minutes. But I still would prefer a program I can configure to be both online and private direct-dialled, with option to not install either one. Though all types of graphics carried well over the web server, of the three I tested out, all three offered some similar features, and each had a few apsects the other two didn't. All seemed more tailored for a static IP, DSL setup, though could be configured with dynamic DNS. The three programs I found and tinkered with occasionally today were: MyWebServer, http://mywebserver.com Host your own Web, http://hostyourownweb.com and Abyss Web Server x1 http://www.aprelium.com all can also be found for download at www.zdnet.com by searching for "webserver". I briefly looked at trying to run them with VA2.1 as front end, but didn't work, it passed ANSI only through the port. So if I try telnet like you guys are running, how do I set it up, and is it strictly ANSI/RIP only? -- [AT2k] -- Your VBBS/VADV Support Center -- [www.at2k.org] -- [bbs.at2k.org] |
