Ok, in defence of all guitarists (me included), most tablature (such as that in GFTPM and Guitar School, etc . . .) has the notes above it, so that shows what the timing, etc . . . While the tab on the bottom shows what fingering to use, because you can play a G on the 3rd fret E-string or the 8th fret B-string, but rather than screw around with some impossible fingering at the bottom of the neck the tablature will show the guitarist the way it is correctly played. Also those two notes may be the same, yet they do sound slightly different. Lets face it, a G on a nickel wound string will sound slightly different than a G on a steel string even if they are the same note, and octive. TAB simply is a way to transfer, visually, the correct way to play it on a guitar. (or lute or mandolin or any other fretted instrument). There really isn't a equivalent possible for drums or any other instrument. Viva-la-tab buh-bye for drums would be a big circle ... OFFLINE 1.50 "Success is just a matter of luck. Ask any failure." |
