780 AXNT20 KNHC 260847 TWDAT Tropical Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 1215 UTC Wed Feb 26 2025 Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the Equator to 31N. The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis. Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0830 UTC. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... Atlantic Gale Warning: A cold front extends from 31N68W to E Cuba. Gale force winds are on either side of the front N of 29N. Seas are peaking near 14 ft within the area of gale force winds. Winds will diminish below gale force today, with marine conditions improving tonight. ...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ... The monsoon trough extends from 07N12W to 02N25W. The ITCZ continues from 02N25W to 02S44W. Scattered moderate convection is noted from 02S to 04N between 10W and 34W. ...GULF OF MEXICO... High pressure prevails over the Gulf, anchored by a 1017 mb high centered over the north central waters. Gentle to moderate winds prevail over the waters W of 94W, with light to gentle winds elsewhere. Seas are in the 4-5 ft range over the SE Gulf, and 2-3 ft elsewhere. For the forecast, weak high pressure will prevail over the north- central waters through tonight leading to tranquil marine conditions across the basin. A cold front will enter the NW Gulf Thu morning and sweep across the basin through Fri. Fresh northerly winds west of the front will diminish Fri afternoon as high pressure builds in the wake of the front. Southeast winds are expected to increase slightly over the central and western Gulf Sun and Sun night. ...CARIBBEAN SEA... A stationary front extends from eastern Cuba to eastern Honduras. Gentle to moderate winds, and seas of 2-4 ft prevail W of the front. Fresh to locally strong winds, and seas of 6-7 ft, are over the SE waters. Gentle to moderate winds, and seas of 4-6 ft are elsewhere E of 73W. Light to gentle winds, and seas of 2-4 ft prevail elsewhere. For the forecast, the stationary front will dissipate today. Moderate to fresh winds offshore Colombia will strengthen toward the end of the week. Mainly moderate to locally fresh winds will prevail elsewhere in the central and eastern Caribbean through the middle of the week, as well as the Tropical N Atlantic. These winds will gradually expand in coverage through the upcoming weekend. ...ATLANTIC OCEAN... A Gale Warning is in effect for areas NE of the Bahamas. Please, see the Special Features section for more details. A cold front extends from 31N68W to E Cuba. Aside from the area of gale force winds, fresh to strong winds are elsewhere N of 26N between 60W and 74W. Seas over these waters are in the 8-14 ft range. Moderate winds, and seas of 4-6 ft are elsewhere west of the front. Moderate to fresh winds, and seas of 5-9 ft prevail elsewhere. For the forecast, the front will begin to weaken as it reaches from near 31N60W to 27N65W and stationary to Hispaniola tonight then dissipate Thu. By late tonight, marine conditions will improve under a weak pressure pattern. The next cold front is expected to move offshore the southeastern United States Thu night. This front will reach from near 31N73W to eastern Cuba early Fri and from near 31N65W to NW Haiti Fri night. Fresh to strong winds are expected on either side of the front N of about 27N Fri. High pressure will settle over the western part of the area Sat and Sat night allowing for generally calm conditions over most of the area.
