well, my rythm guitarist in my band has been playing for 3, can do stones,
the doors, meat puppets, nirvana, megadeth, metallica, and pretty much every
alt. group there is... i've been playing for 3 years (drumms) and i can do
the same...

as for the greenday thing, heres the whole deal:

i was at my friends house (as above mentioned, guitar for 3 years). then one
of his friends came over (i was still there) and is all "hey man, i just got
this green day tape, here. listen" <plays it>. my guitarist friend then says
"Thats hella easy" picks up the guitar, and in about 10 secconds is playing
along with the song.

i was trying to demonstrate the point that greenday had/has no talent. drums
are harder for new people to play, but they're easier to figure out. i can
listen to a song for about 30 secconds and i can start playing the drum part.

what i'm saying is this: I think that a guitarist who cant read sheet music
but calls himself a musician is not a musician, but a poser who just wants to
be able to say hes a guitarist and doesn't actually want to BE a guitarist.
