Message   Freth    All   Current state of VBBS (aka VADV) and community?   August 28, 2016
 10:58 AM

Lately, I've been wanting to get away from social media (Facebook, Twitter,
etc.) and get back to simpler forms of communication and community. I've been
coming to this website for years, off and on, with ideas of starting a BBS
again. I ran one for 5+ years back in the day. Each time, I wanted to but
didn't have the drive to do so, that and I couldn't find my darn BBS files.
Anyway, so I recently set about looking for BBS software to run. I would
*love* to run a VBBS bulletin board, but the community appears to be dead.
Still that shouldn't keep me from running a BBS, because--well, the more the
better.

So I set about checking other BBS software, just to see what's been going on
and what I found is there are pockets of activity with other BBS packages.
Mystic BBS seems to be one of the more active software packages. I think the
reason why is because the author is still active and the software is developed
in Free Pascal, which supports multiple platforms.

I'm torn between nostalgia of my old BBS days and the need to be in an active
community that is still passionate about BBSing. Is there anyone still here?
How many BBS's are still active?

Regards,

Freth
