So Steve, are you building guitars, doing repairs or both? If you are building, what types of guitars are you doing? Solid body electrics? Acoustics? I'm generally curious. Both my collage roomate and I knew Paul Reed Smith from St. Mary's College and my roommate has made a couple of electrics so far. Mostly Fender copies. I worked in the library and had access to lots of books and had checked out Sloan's book on building acoustic dreadnoughts, this was in 1981, and noticed that Paul Reed Smith had checked out this book like about 20 times. He made his first electric as an independant study project (he was originally a math major) and got graded for it. Eventually bought Sloan's book when it was available again as it was out of print for many years. It's a great book with a template and tells you how to make your own tools and has a good method for steaming the sides. Jah |
