  I hate to stick my nose in this, but I feel you are both partially right.
Some people just cannot stand the SIGHT of an inter-racial couple, and will
do anything to stick it to them.

  On the other hand, can you imagine some neandertal cop thinking that if he
can bust O.J. that it would be his ticket to promotions for the rest of his
career?  Or some ambitious prosecutor who thinks it will at least get his
face on T.V. and give him/HER a lot of High Visibility?
