T#@> With all of the recent discussion of the Susan Smith trial in the
T#@> papers and on television I decided it was time to bring it to this sub
T#@> as well. Just like Larry King has his legal panal...we have our own
T#@> here as well! :) Anyway, here are a couple of questions for everyone to
 T#@> toss around:
T#@> 1) Why does the DA in South Carolina seek the death sentence against
T#@> Susan Smith and the DA in Los Angeles doesn't against O.J. Simpson?
T#@> Is it because it would be political hell to seek to kill a man like
T#@> Simpson and in South Carolina it would be political hell not to seek
T#@> to a woman who murdered her own kids? Is it because Smith admitted
T#@> she did it while O.J. is still innocent until proven guilty?
T#@> 2) Why does a judge in LA allow the camaras in the courtroom and the
T#@> judge in South Carolina does not? Are camaras in the courtroom a
T#@> good or bad thing? Does it depend on how the judge takes control of
T#@> the camaras in the courtroom?

States are all different; night and day difference between CA and SC.
Cameras in courtroom serve the purpose of keeping us all educated as to
the workings and foibles of our legal system, altho' realistically, it is
also a form of spectator entertainment. As I understand it, cables
 Court-TV is quite popular.

T#@> 3) More of a personal question here but does Susan Smith deserve to
T#@> die and do you believe her to be insane?

She might have severe depression, but unless it is psychotic or manic-
depression, she is not legally "insane". All are treatable with an accept-
ably statistically high success rate (ballpark 80%) anyway, yet she chose
to NOT get help despite her own history of abuse, which she acknowledges.
However, they have "proven" her sane, so, yes, she deserves to die. When
I think of the TERROR those little boys went thru as they slowly sank into
the water, as well as the ABANDOMENT they must have felt as their mother
WATCHED them, my blood BOILS!!!! The national acuasations she made per the
black kidnapper -- as bad and vicious as that was -- pales next to her acts
of murder. Execute her, and may she rot in hell!
 ZD!
