In that, I will agree completely.  I own weapons, I also have children.  I'm
very cognizant of the possible dangers, and keep those weapons well away from
where the kids could get to them.  I also have the responsibility to keep it
in their minds that guns are VERY dangerous, have had to take the time to
teach them what it's like to handle one, and that guns are NEVER the
automatic answer to a problem.  In fact, gun use can cause more problems than
solve them.  I don't hold to the use of weapons for home security.  Even in
BAD neighborhoods, there are other measures than can be taken to increase
security, so that a gun only needs to be used when the situation is clear,
and no innocent lives put at risk.

The above pontificating is all well and fine, but the fact stands that
children are still being killed each year through firearm carelessness.  I'm
not oblivious to that.  However, I don't feel that it is others' obligation
to penalize me for the irresponsibility of others.
