 I suppose ideally money should be thought of in a marraige as just a means
 to a common good and end, but many people see it as a measure of their
 self-worth and value, as well as a manipulative tool, and bring that into
 marraige too. Money and children are the top reasons for divorce -- sex
 isn't! -- yet I doubt that marital money mangement is even taught much
 anywhere, let alone the psychological aspects of it.

 I don't really understand this either, it seems to me not so much as a
 reason to keep ones's identity as it is a power establishment stuggle.
 If she is so insecure as to absolutely need her own last name, she
 shouldn't get married. On this topic, I also think hypenated last names
 are silly also, but if it makes a couple feel truely equal, united and
 happy, so be it.
