There's a liquid calcium citrate on the market. I don't remember the name of it but your local health food store or nutrition shop would know. (let your fingers do the walking...) Sounds like your 4 year old doesn't make lactase, the enzyme needed to digest lactose (milk sugar), in normal form or amount. But then "normal" is debatable, since about 25% of children never do, and suffer throughout childhood with earaches and colds and other manifestations of milk allergies, and since about 70% of adults have lost the ability to make this enzyme. Good luck in your search. Personally, I would never advise drinking cows milk, but many nutritionists say that another option for you would be to buy the enzyme and add it to the milk before serving to your kids. Your local health food/nutrition person should know about that, too. |
