The last time I heard of fibrocystic disease was in 1981. Many gynecologists
claim that there is no such thing. Breast tenderness, granulosis, and cysts
are something no one is willing to talk about. Medical professionals will
invariably blame the patient for lliving a sinful life. As an former
nutritionist, I used to recommend certain nutritional approaches for
alleviating some of the symptoms--probably not legally. Caffeine and alcohol
have been shown to aggravate breast problems in many (read, not ALL) people.
Certain vitamins, especially vitamin E, are important in breast health.
Breast problems, ovarian cysts, and endometriosis are nearly epidemic in this
country. Some recent research suggests that estrogenic compounds found in
most pesticies and many other environmental pollutants are responsible for
the rise in such diseases. The research started with men, many of whom became
sterile, and even developed female sex charcteristics (brasts, penile
shrinking, etc.). So, does that mean you shouldn't eat vegetables? If you can
afford it, stay away from supermarket produce and buy organically grown
produce. That's about the only advice anyone can goive you. Perhaps someone
out there knows of some herbal remedies that have shown promsie in this area.
