Everyone is different.  My sister had a bad reaction to both shots but says
she is glad she did it.  I did not have much of a reaction at all, and I
suspect part of mine with the first shot was nerves.  The pain in the
muscle where I got the shot was the worst I have ever experienced with a
shot (worse even than getting stung by a yellow-jacket) but that was the
worse side-effect I experienced.
