Yes....the laser itself can only keep track so much.  The faster the drive,
the more accurate it has to be.

We won't see a motor capable of 500X anytime soon.....but this will be of
interest:


PANOSONIC has just released a 10X SPEED CD ROM drive....with 12X and 15X
speeds available this year.  That's as fast as a hard drive!  Cool, huh?
