Why not as Zip and IoMega cartidages are getting more popular. Why not just
adopt the 120M 3.5" floppies that 3M made and Compaq is supposed to be using
their newest computers?
Or how about putting software on QIC-80 tapes that just about everyone can re
these days?

CD's are cheaper, easier to package and distribute, and already are widely
accepted. Recordable CDROM's will continue to drop in price, being forced
that way by the cheaper cost of the Zip/Jaz/EZdrive etc competition. It won't
be but a few months and we will begin to see RCD's at Jazz prices and less.
QIC80 is fine for archival, but you really can't run an install from them, or
extract material at a fast enough pace to make it work. Compaq is taking
another 'gamble' on the optical floppy, just like they did on the built in
photo scanner. Both are going to bomb again, just like the 'answering system'
they had prior to both. With any luck they'll cut their own throats and will
stay away from partnerships with makers such as IOMEGA that install their
hardware for free just to make inroads.

I can now build you a 850meg Parallel backup w/Instant access and EPP transfer
rates for $270. Whats' even better is that this is actually an external IDE
harddrive that you can change at will, and read/write at will. Now, go buy a
JAZZ??
