One of the reasons is that the access time is not increasing at the same rate as the rotational speed, so overall throughput with normal accesses is less than you would expect with the faster rotational speed. I do not see this changing either. It is pretty easy to speed up the rotation of the CD, but making the heads move faster and find the correct spot on the cd is a lot harder. Kim |
