Animals can be socialized AND stubborn at the same time.

You could go through a hundred cycles of "Sophie, stop biting the broomstick"
[Sophie leaves the broomstick alone for 3 minutes, then returns and starts
playing with it again].

I suspect they are stubborn precisely because they are socialized and want your
attention.
