Pretty sure I have mentioned this before, but it bears repeating. Back in 2017, I completed my first Great Lakes Circle Tours by driving around the North Shore of Lake Superior. While staying in the Soo, I met another traveler who was staying in the room next to mine. Turns out he is a Canadian citizen who, in his younger days, had volunteered to join the US military. He did so because he thought he'd see more of the world and also so that his children would have more opportunities being dual-citizens. The reason he was in the Soo is because he was on his way into the states to take advantage of his VA medical benefits. I mentioned that here in the states the VA sometimes gets a bad rap. He said that his VA benefits were *better* than his Canadian state-run benefits were so he took advantage of the VA benefits whenever he could. He much preferred dealing with the VA over dealing with the Canadian system. So there is that.
