That must be me.

Spain is that country that used to be great and then decided to dig itself into
a hole, and it is still in the process of making the hole to bury itself.

For starters:

* Lawmakers are openly making laws to benefit themselves and their friends. Are
you three votes short from getting voted into Presidency in Congress? No
problem! Enact a retroactive law that pardons some convicted politicians from
another party so they don't hit jail and support your presidency instead.

* We are actively killing our remaining industries and we love it! Touristic
areas used to have a lot of activism against tourism. We are also the Number One
proponents of erradicating traditional cars in favor of electric vehicles, and
the way we intend to achieve our objective is by closing our factories and
opening EV factories in North Africa instead. We have mineral deposits we won't
exploit and some autonomies are just not licensing any farming activity anymore.

* Social Healthcare is collapsed in a big chunk of the country. That is good
news because the private sector gets to see all the patients social healthcare
is pissing on, and if somebody complains because the price is too bad they can
always tell them "Nobody is forcing you to come here, you could be using the
free Universal healthcare instead."

* Anything you want to do requires a pile of paperwork so nasty you will think
you are back in the Soviet Union. The good news is half of the economy is
underground already, so if you can't get bothered to fill the paperwork
necessary to get meds for your horse you just hit on the friend of the cousin of
the clerk at your regular pet food store for it.

* Juridical security is non-existent. If you open a business here you'd better
make a profit out of it very fast, because they WILL make a law and ruin your
business model. Are you barely making it selling vitamin and mineral suplements?
Too bad! Let's ban half of your inventory this evening, shall we? We can't let
you sell cheap products that compete with the pharmas bribing the gov, you know.

That said, it is not that bad. We have soccer and Hispano-Breton horses. Most of
the country is still safe, in the sense that it is unlikely they will break your
legs to get your boots. It is actually very easy to lock yourself in a bubble
with your gazpacho and your paella and pretend everything is right because, as
long as you do nothing interesting with your life, you won't notice any
issues... for the time being.
