RE: cd-Rom not being recognized BY: ``Jeanne Kleypas`` VirtualNET,- #45 AT 1512300 Out of blue, the audio was not complete on the games I have on my cd's. My 'friend' decided to take a look at it. First it didn't make a change, but over the last two days for whatever command he gave the computer, it does not even recognize that there is a cd player. I still can get windows, but if I put in a cd, it says to put one in, then an error comes up saying MSCDX-2.10 and then the exact same thing again underneath that. The computer is not even a year old yet. I don't think it is something actually wrong with the cd dept., just need a brain to tell me something to try. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. You didn't state what error message you got, but it sounds like your friend changed a bootup parameter. The original fix should have been to increase the buffer size (and possibly work on increasing conventional memory size for the program). The parameters are specified on boot-up in CONFIG.SYS. Other things that will affect it is the driver setup for your particular CD ROM - which is in your AUTOEXEC.BAT. Check those settings as well. Some drivers have buffer size settings here, too. The IRQ should match whatever the card setting is for the CD ROM card and should not conflict with anything else (you "might" get away with using the "shared" IRQ9). I may be wrong, but it's a start in things to check out. Look up MSCDEX in your handy-dandy DOS manual. Use a system boot disk to experiment with. -Nocturnal 1 |
