-=> Quoting Shotgun #1 @1360000*1 to Alfred E. Neuman #664 @17 <=- S#@> The original CDRoms had a data transfer rate of about 150k per S#@> second. The next wave, had a 300k data transfer rate, hence they were S#@> called 2x drives. Quad speed, or 4x CDRoms transfer data at around S#@> 600k. Interestingly enough, a hard drive has a transfer speed too. S#@> Most are right around 1 Meg/second. So, the 6x CDRoms are about as S#@> fast as Hard Drives. 8x drives transfer data at about 1.2 Meg/second, S#@> and that puts them in the class with the more modern faster Hard S#@> Drives. I think I should note, however, that software hasn't quite been designed with the 8x transfer rates in mind quite yet. It's nice to look ahead, but let's wait until the standards get caught up before we go out and buy our 8x CDRoms. utlander! ... 8 bits = 1 byte; 4 bits = 1 nibble; 8 nibbles = a hickey? ___ Blue Wave/DOS v2.30 [NR] |
