It's because the "news" went from being news read by actual journalists to being
soft news and commentary being read by commentators with no integrity.

I mean, Walter Cronkite was a raging liberal but you'd never known it by
watching his broadcasts.  Same with Peter Jennings.  Dan Rather just turned out
to be an idiot.  Still, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
