I don't think the price of fossile energy is going to normalize in the long
run. Peak coal was hit in 2015 and peak oil in 2019.

We are in for a contracting industrial production worldwide, which of course
will be acompanied by a contracting economy. There will be price cycles with
fuel prices, of course: firms will close down due to the contracting economy,
and with less demand, fuel prices will take dips down. Those moments will serve
as breaks to catch breath, but in the mid to long term the world economy will
be trapped in a death spiral until we either replace peaked fuels or adjust
our habits of consumption.
