Think of really ancient Athens (ie. 4th Century B.C.) where the sense of honor and independence in the citizens was pretty much sacred. All the 2nd Amendment movement can be traced back to these cultures which considered that a free citizen had certain rights by definition, and if the government denied such right, he was not a citizen, but a slave. Being a slave was a shameful thing so they did their best to keep their rights and honor. America is the last Western country openly using this as a political point, and is starting to operate as a "Guilt Culture", with concerns regarding personal rights still present, but fading away. Western Europe is a complete Guilt Culture so we will bend over and take it in the ass if we think we can benefit from it, because we don't have a strong notion of shame or honor. This is why we openly throw our rights into the furnace if we think we can obtain something in return. You need to look into Asia for other Shame Cultures nowadays, I think. -- gopher://gopher.richardfalken.com/1/richardfalken --- SBBSecho 3.15-Linux * Origin: Palantir * palantirbbs.ddns.net * Pensacola, FL * (618:250/24) |
