NA> It was another one of those things where a Sysop died and the rest of us NA> didn't know until sometime after... not as fun as the Sysop who died in NA> his apartment with his rent/bills on auto-withdraw and his NA> disability/retirement on auto-deposit, so it was only until the neighbors NA> complained of the smell much later did the cops show up to bust down the NA> door (his BBS running on autopilot the whole time) Who was that? Even when you never met these people, I still hate to hear news of anyone passing away. Nancy Backus used to log in here all the time and then it went quiet. Eli Sanford (whom I have spoke with several times on the phone) was another one. He brought WWIVnet back to life and was a huge WWIV supporter over the years. He was not that old, too. Very nice guy. I was chatting with him not long before he passed. That really sucked. I still remember when I found out my old co-sysop passed. Granted he was 30+ years older than me, but I still remember meeting him in person long ago when I was around 20 years old. NA> NA> Anyhow so apparently with Roy he was never married despite proclaiming so NA> for years, was the one that reported Ward to the Faa for additional NA> screening and circumvented the censorship of the Fidonews echo by linking NA> with... Michiel vandervlist of all people. Trust me I never saw *that* NA> one coming. I didn't know about the FAA thing. I believe Roy was married and has several kids. What I read was his wife had died many years before Roy passed and he never said anything about it. He acted like she was still alive and would talk about her all the time. It is very sad to hear that - and even Ward felt bad about that when he heard that info. NA> I think he was a mechanic or something because he ran the Auto echo on NA> Fido and was very experienced with engine repair. Yes, he ran an engine rebuild shop. He was very much into engines, cars, and tools. I remember chatting with him on the best options to get before I bought my air compressor. NA> I talked to him on the phone a few times, this must of been a few months NA> before he died and he surprisingly was very laid-back, calm, didn't talk NA> much. I never spoke with him on the phone, but we did email and exchange pictures of car projects, etc. - Mark --- WWIVToss v.1.52 * Origin: http://www.weather-station.org * Bel Air, MD -USA (618:100/12.0) |
