Cursor lightning white against dull screen
Demanding attention incessantly in flashes.
From my office down the hall
I hear sexless voices rising in rationales
To justify today for future trial.
Behind me,
Through jail-bar gray-rimmed south windows
Once-futuristic glass harbors well-bred fiscal rapists
Now a minaret for time of arrest.
Confessions of criminal virgins drone in pillowed ears at end of shift.
Gangbangers maintain innocence, prepared to sue for Rodney King.
I prefer fiction.

I'm not really sure, but I think I'm the only person I know who writes law
enforcement poetry.
