RRD#@> Or how about the folks that want to "approve" the article before it RRD#@>to print and then they want to tell you how to write it? What I do is ca RRD#@>to verify ONLY the facts. I've never had anyone complain about an articl RRD#@>I've written once they've seen it in print. Oh...yeah...the "approval" folks <g> I think this really comes from some people thinking of the articles more in terms of advertisements than profiles or news stories. While it's true feature coverage can be very ad-driven in newspapers, they're still *news* papers. My editor says he had the biggest problems in this regard when he did one of those "advertorial" sections. Fortunately for me, one of the interns was assigned those stories...unfortunately for the paper, some of the advertisers were *not* happy...and I ended being assigned to do feature stories on a couple of them to appease them (in one case, the advertiser wouldn't pay for the original ad until a "better" story was done...I wrote a story, it was printed, she paid for the ad...and she's taken out quite a few ads since that time). I don't know what happened to the intern... Meanwhile, the editor swore he'd never do one of those "advertorial" sections again (you know, the theme sections where folks buy ads and a little "article" accompanies them). He hasn't, either <g> We don't allow our subjects story approval. That's pretty much SOP with legitimate media I'd suppose. RRD#@> I used to do most of my interviews on Sundays but I was interviewing RRD#@>farmers and ranchers then and they are usually around on the weekends. I RRD#@>suspect I'll be doing a lot of weekday work in this new freelance career. It took me a little while to find the optimum hours for interviewing...but Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays work best for me, as a general rule. I try catching people around 10 a.m or 2 p.m. (often having the best luck in the mid afternoon). Of course, I've set up interviews on Saturdays...I've ended up interviewing restaurant owners at midnight...whatever works out best! * OLX 2.1 TD * A clean desk is a sign of a cluttered desk drawer. |
