RRD#@> I've been working to get my freelance work going this week. And I'v
RRD#@>been working on the June issue of Writer's Workshop Review. It's nearly
RRD#@>completed now.

I just proofread the June issue of the Chamber newsletter so it can go
to print!
I'm working on begging for stuff for the July issue...got the info for
my first page story gathered, and a couple of other fillers in hand.
This will be cutting it close before I go up north in early June...

RRD#@> Last Thursday I took a packet of tear sheets in to a local editor.
RRD#@>haven't heard back yet though. I guess that's pretty normal though. I
RRD#@>really want to work for this publication though because it is really nice
RRD#@>It's a full color publication and I would love to see some of my work on
RRD#@>nice pages.

Good luck with it!

RRD#@> I also have a call in to another local editor. When I worked for th
RRD#@>publication before, I delt with the owner/publisher. He didn't have an
RRD#@>editor then. I spoke to him about two months ago and he said that he and
RRD#@>new editor were talking about needing more writers. I couldn't call to s
RRD#@>with the editor then because the car wasn't yet legal and I didn't want t
RRD#@>have to pass on any assignments they might offer. Now I'm all set to go
RRD#@>though so I made the call.

Sounds promising...

RRD#@> Even though I am an editor myself, I still have a problem working up
RRD#@>nerve to call other editors. It's one thing to chat on the phone with a
RRD#@>friend but it's completely different when you are approaching someone tha
RRD#@>you hope will give you work. I've never been real good at those kinds of
RRD#@>phone calls. Call me chicken. ;-)

I never knew where I found the nerve to send in that first letter and
clips to the newspaper editor. The thought struck me...and I hurried to
act on it before I lost my nerve, I guess <g> I sent in the resume,
letter and clips within 24 hours of first spotting the ad for
freelancers...and heard back from the editor within the next 24 hours!
It's all in the timing, I guess...

RRD#@> I hope people don't feel that way when they want to call me though.
RRD#@>Maybe these editors feel the same way and I'm just over reacting? I sell
RRD#@>myself much better on paper though.

I can relate!

RRD#@> So how is YOUR week going? Are you getting any writing done? Any n
RRD#@>publications to boast about? I have a couple of articles coming out in a
RRD#@>rather large newsletter for pet bird owners. It's not real exciting but
RRD#@>is a new masthead to add to my collection. Right now I want to get as ma
RRD#@>by-lines under my belt as possible.

Bylines are good <smile> I'm just plugging away like usual...hoping to
get everything done within the next 10 days. Then it's "Hammock
Time"...yup, I take my hammock to the cottage!
