Where did everyone go? Posting has really slowed in this message area of late. Hope to see more of you back here soon. I've been working to get my freelance work going this week. And I've been working on the June issue of Writer's Workshop Review. It's nearly completed now. Last Thursday I took a packet of tear sheets in to a local editor. I haven't heard back yet though. I guess that's pretty normal though. I really want to work for this publication though because it is really nice. It's a full color publication and I would love to see some of my work on such nice pages. I also have a call in to another local editor. When I worked for this publication before, I delt with the owner/publisher. He didn't have an editor then. I spoke to him about two months ago and he said that he and his new editor were talking about needing more writers. I couldn't call to speak with the editor then because the car wasn't yet legal and I didn't want to have to pass on any assignments they might offer. Now I'm all set to go though so I made the call. Even though I am an editor myself, I still have a problem working up the nerve to call other editors. It's one thing to chat on the phone with a friend but it's completely different when you are approaching someone that you hope will give you work. I've never been real good at those kinds of phone calls. Call me chicken. ;-) I hope people don't feel that way when they want to call me though. Maybe these editors feel the same way and I'm just over reacting? I sell myself much better on paper though. My oldest son will be turning 15 on Saturday and he's already talking about wanting a car. I don't mind telling you that the thought of teaching someone to drive, scares the heck out of me. My mother was so calm when she was teaching me. She decided to do the deed rather than put me through listening to my father yell at me. But I had, I think, more of a feel for driving than my son has. I felt like I knew how to drive before I ever got behind the wheel. But I'm not sure what to think of a son who thinks a car needs new tires just because they are low on air! Tomorrow I have to go in for ANOTHER dental visit. I'm not thrilled to be looking at another three and a half hours in a dental chair. But it has to be done I guess. So how is YOUR week going? Are you getting any writing done? Any new publications to boast about? I have a couple of articles coming out in a rather large newsletter for pet bird owners. It's not real exciting but it is a new masthead to add to my collection. Right now I want to get as many by-lines under my belt as possible. Enjoy the rest of your writing week!
