Ŀ Ŀ ķ Ŀ Ŀ Ŀ Ķ Ŀ Time to post your goals for the week of 5/12/95. Be sure to post progress from last week as well. If you are a Writer's Workshop lurker, come and join us in posting our goals for the week. You will be glad uou did! Post weekly goals! Give it a try, just once. I promise it will really help keep you on track with your current projects. Send out the GOAL POST every week by Saturday. Make it a habit to start posting your goals with us. My goals for last week and progress report... 1. Mail out the May issue. This one will be done tomorrow. 2. Do the newsletter for the writing club. Done! 3. Place text into the June issue. I've started this one. Just waiting to get back more material from my copy editor. All the text files are in that I have back though. 4. Money providing, take driving tests. Did the tests and passed them! Now my car is legal to drive and **I** am legal to drive it! Yeah! 5. At least make appointments to visit a couple of local editors about work. I called the first of these and was asked to send in some tear sheets and a copy of WWR. I'll be sending the packet out today! 6. Call another editor I know and ask about the possibility of doing an occasional article. Instead of calling, I sent a nice long fax. Haven't heard back yet though. My goals for this week are to.... 1. Call and make an appointment to meet with the second editor mentioned in last week's goal #5. 2. Continue working on the june issue! 3. I'm leaving most of the rest of the week open in case I get assignments from the editors. If I DON'T get assignments, I'll continue to edit my book. (I did edit the first three chapters this week and it wasn't even one of my goals.) On a personal note: I guess you could say that this week was the best week that I've had in a long time. I got a LOT of things accomplished. Getting myself and the car licensed is a real load off my mind and opens up so many more possibilities! It's a real sense of freedom to have my own car again. Those of you who have never been without a car should be very thankful. How many of you have a POSITIVE story you can tell about DMV? Not many if public opinion means anything. But I can say for the first time ever, that I have experienced positive things in our local DMV office. In this State, before you can license a car, you have to pass an emmissions test. Since it can take time to get your car running perfectly according to DEQ, it can cause problems. First off, there is a fine of $25 for not changing the title over within 15 days from the day you buy a car. Then after the 16th day, you have to pay $2 a day on top of that. So we were expecting that we would have to pay the $25 plus $54 in late fees. Instead, DMV knew of a loop-hole they could use by using the date of the emmissions test (which we'd gotten only the day before!) No late fees at all! When I went in to take the driving test, I wasn't aware that I would be expected to parallel park. (I didn't have to do that in Oregon, the only other State I've had a license in.) I went out and did it a few times before the test but I had trouble getting within 12" of the curb as required. But I thought I did pretty well considering that I'd never tried it before in this car. But when I took the test, I blew it completely! Good thing they don't automatically flunk you if you can't parallel park. ;-) I surprised myself by editing the first three chapters of my novel this week. I've already edited it so many times that the thought of going over it again, filled me with dread. But it really wasn't so bad once I got started and now that Patti has offered to copy edit it for me, it takes a lot of pressure off. I have great faith in Patti and I know that together we can get my manuscript in shape to begin submitting to agents. I hope to be able to start sending out query letters by the end of the year. Rhia Have a great writing week! Read on for more information about Writer's Workshop and Writer's Workshop Review Magazine.
