ALL: This just happened: A friend's teenaged son used one of those free On Line America disks (on his parents business computer) to go online and play games and download software. HE BROUGHT IN A VIRUS THAT ATTACKS ANY FLOPPY DRIVE OPERATION! I called America On Line and spoke with a tech. He said that THEY use a virus scanning on all software that passes through them, but, they are a gateway to the INTERNET and THEY don't use virus scanning. I don't know what to think. The first couple of times a person uses a floppy operation such as copy, backup, or format, it works, and sometimes it works the second time, the third floppy operation enforces the virus. The message on all floppy operations is: Can't format (or copy or backup) disk is write protected. So, BEWARE! Use a good virus scanning program on your computer before you go online to ANYWHERE!! May all your floppies live happily ever after Writer's Workshop BBS, VirtualNET @1360008, Internet @workshop.rain.com Home of Writer's Workshop Review Magazine.
