Hi Mike, MP> Are there any tips or tricks one would suggest when looking over a MP> Windows machine when the owner (not you) thinks it is "running slow"? I'd download a portable version of CCleaner and run it. That is more than likely a primary cause of the "slow" issue. You wouldn't believe how much crap I have to clean off of some of the systems at work sometimes...and even my parents' W10 systems. Something else you can do is check for defragging of the hard disk. NTFS is not as well-organized as say ext4 is or even JFS and it does need defragging from time to time. See how many programs are running in memory. You might check out this link: http://alternativeto.net/software/siw---syste... I used to use SIW before the author started charging for it. You might also want to pick up the SysInternals suite and put it on an USB drive: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysintern... Those tools are -excellent- and I have used them a lot over the years. Not so much anymore since my scope is extremely limited at work (most of the time we just reimage) and at home, I'm running Linux...and my parents don't do anything that would really stress out their computers too much. I'd check available RAM too. HTH, Sean ... Is a computer language with GOTOs totally Wirth-less? --- MultiMail/Linux * Origin: Outpost BBS * Limestone, TN, USA (618:618/1) |
