I think you can tell when the system reboots.  I know there's another 
way to check but that escapes me right now.

I mostly move things via FTP because I don't trust Samba.  When I get 
this machine switched back to Devuan Linux and the BBS running on the 
server, I am going to try to set up NFS again.
