On 06 Jun 2021, Shawn Highfield said the following... SH> Unfortunaly the scanner no longer works as it uses a java based web app SH> that runs on a secondary network port. I can force it to work by SH> booting a windows XP virtual machine and using IE 6, but it got to be a SH> pain so I bought a inkjet printer I use as a scanner since the ink dried SH> out in it. I go through phases with printing it seems. There could be months on end where I won't print anything and then suddenly I do. This is why I went with a laser printer. It doesn't care how long it sits there unused, it will just spring to life the next time I need it. The printer we have now I bought from Staples, it's a Canon B&W laser printer. Of course when I bought it I was asked if I wanted the extended warranty, which I always say no to. The guy looks around and explains that it's $30 for the warranty, if I pop one of the rollers out and bring the printer back near the end of the warranty they'll just give me a credit for a new printer. Seeing as I don't print THAT much I almost never have to buy toner anymore. I just use the toner that comes with the printer, when I run out, my printer mysteriously breaks (as long as it's in the 2nd year) and I go get a new printer for free and buy a new $30 warranty. Maybe one of these days they'll catch on, but the original printer was purchased in ~2011 and I've been getting a new printer every 12-18 months since then.
