Hello, August! Replying to a message of August Abolins to Sean Dennis: AA> The phrase "unused WD 2TB drive" is a shocker. Had you upgraded to AA> using 4TB or 8TB units? Must be nice to have unused 2TB drive. Nope. People just give me computer equipment. Normally I take a look at the computer, strip it for parts, and get rid of the rest. My BBS computer has a 160GB drive for ArcaOS and a 500GB drive for the BBS. I haven't worked in over a year and haven't had an income then so no upgrading. My Windows desktop is a HP EliteDesk 705 SFF desktop with a 1TB drive in it. When I do buy a computer, it is normally an off-lease business desktop. I'm considering moving the BBS to an actual server though: my HP ProLiant ML110 G6 tower. I doubt I'll ever have a need for the BBS to be bigger than 500GB. AA> I'm still putzing along with two 250GB 3.5" external drives, a AA> handful of aging thumbdrives of 1GB to 64GB capacity, and each AA> everyone is filled with "important" stuff, and that's it. I'm going to build myself a file server but I am waiting until I can buy another actual server to do that so I can put multiple hard drives in it. I have seen 4TB hard drives for $60 recently and I think it was at TigerDirect. I have a lot of backups, be it computer backups, backups of ISOs, and movies and music. There's plenty of decent open-source file server software one can use. Later, Sean --- FleetStreet 1.27.1 * Origin: Outpost BBS Local Console * bbs.outpostbbs.net:10123 (618:618/10) |
