As KN> long as the install process is not a nightmare If you're handy with computers, Thinkpad T4Xs are nice to work on. Parts are cheap, IBM has great hardware service guides online, and they even mark which screws go where on the back. The CPU upgrade looks easy once you get the keyboard and top cover off. One thing to beware of is that if you want to upgrade the network card, you'll need to patch the system - IBM only wanted you to use certain cards. There's a bootable CD called no-1802 (after the error message) that removes the message. I've got a Dell-branded ABG card that works well after running no-1802. The thinkwiki has lots of information, too. --- SBBSecho 3.00-Win32 * Origin: http://realitycheckbbs.org (618:300/1) |
