One of the reasons I'm glad I'm done with IT professionally: I despise
modern Windows also.  I mean, I've never been a huge fan of Windows but it
generally stayed out of your way.  Now there's intrusive ads, the overly
personal mentality of "we are doing" like you said, and from what I've seen,
Microsoft's long-standing tradition of lack of quality has just gotten
worse.

You might take a look at ArcaOS.  It does what it's supposed to with a
minimum of issues.
