One other thing to check is that the LIBPATH and PATH in CONFIG.SYS on the
misbehaving machine contains the same paths as the "good" machine.  Before 
I did my upgrade, I think the LIBPATH must have also included the directory
the software is installed in.  I had to go back and add several paths to 
the LIBPATH because things started failing.  I would not have thought about 
it until then.  Adding the vmodem path to the LIBPATH might fix it.
