If I'm left without a choice but a 64bit OS, I might.  It was just the legacy
console application setting that I was missing.  EleBBS has a linux version,
butit doesn't have it's own telnet server, so I'm not sure how well it would
work using the BBS with inetd and linux.  Some of the RA compatible dos doors
might not work with dosemu that way, though, dunno.
