The Wise Man and The Fool

When hearts become heavy and fingers are cold
As hopes seem to shatter and dreams have grown old
And minds become weary from worry and fear
As conscience and reason in shadows appear
And what once was ended is poised to begin
As the soul becomes burdened and laden with sin

Soon will a change from one or another
Come open your eyes to their story
And if your inspection comes close to perfection
Their voices will lessen your glory

As all of humanity swears they have learned
     That evil deserves no existence
And even more learning will serve but to show us
     Our meagerly mortal resistance
As the blood of your sanity rushes through wounds of the past
     And refuses to clot
Your truth may subside, but pray not forever
As your fortune may force you to do as you'd not

Soon will the children be forced to be men
And laughter and song must subside
Then will the heartache of life be ingested
In youth that has needlessly died

Soon will creation mean less to the people
As man will look more to his wealth
And one man alone is far from completion
If he cannot make sense of himself

If each day the mirror increases the misery
And every new task becomes lost in despair
And all you've discovered becomes more uncertain
And no desperation can force you to care
Then you will see that time won't diminish
The reason you'll fight to survive
And then you may die if you will not believe
There's a reason for staying alive

And wise men will search for a means of expression
And change what is wrong in their eyes
And fools will insist on an endless dilemma
And bury their voices in lies

Then will the time be to stop and consider
The reason for playing the game
And that is the moment to smile and discover
That Wise Man and Fool are the same.
