Re: Convince me to run OS/2..... > OK, Next question.... My DX4/100 has 1 72 pin simm. Do I need to get another > 1 72 pinn 8 megger, or can I put anything in there? That all depends on your motherboard... Different motherboards allow different memory configurations... Cunsult your manual on this one > There are converters that wil allow you to use your 30 pin ram in a 72 > pin socket. I see these in the Computer Shopper all the time. I've heard mixed reviews on running them with OS/2.. OS/2 is very demanding on a system, and will show problems that DOS/Win, or DV won't... > I have heard conflicting arguments about having Windoze95 AND OS/2 on > the same system. Any truth to this? Since Windoze95 is an alledged operating > system, would I be able to run Windoze95 through OS/2 or need the dual boot I've setup several systems like this with no problem... One thing to keep in mind, you will need a complete backup of everything you want to keep, as the only way I know of doing it is with Boot Manager, and re-partitioning your hard drive... > system? Also the 486DX-100 is a Plug-N-Play mother board. Will I have > problems with the add-ons? To be honect, I've never messed with Plug-n-Pray.. I mean play > One other person says that DesqView is a memory hog, but I haven't seen > too much of this. I do like the fact that a tape back-up can be run without > shutting down the BBS. Well, this is what I hear. This is true to a point... OS/2 locks files that are in use, and you sometimes can't access them... But, that's not much of a problem... Do a full backup with the bbs down to get everything, then your incrementals can be done just fine with the bbs running... Do keep in mind that not all backup software is created equal, and some is more sytem demanding than others... So, with some of it, your users won't even know it's running, while with others it'll dog the system hard... I was using Backmaster, but am switching to DualStor, for this, and other reasons...
