Billp | All | Leaving MS-DOS for OS/2 |

With the release of WIN 95 and some criticism levelled at me by Microsoft, I have decided to try to get away from Microsoft products and move to OS/2. I just have a lot of questions before I make the leap. My current configuration is: Cyrix 486DX2/66 4 mb memory 250 mb drive c: 850 mb drive as d: and e: (750mb d: and 100 e 2x CD-ROM 3.5" drive a: 5.25" drive b: Mouse Joystick Hayes 2400 External Modem on com2: Zoom Modem internal 14.4kb Com4: SoundBlaster Pro clone SVGA board with 1mb Parallel Printer Applications include 200 mb of various games including RAPTOR, and the LucalFilms Tie Fighter and X-wing, BattleChess 4000, Work 6.0 something Excel (not most recent) AOL Prodigy Compuserve RIPTerm The complete AMI-PRO Lotus office system OK, that's pretty much it. A few other odds and ends, but nothing I feel is significant. Unfortunately, I am compelled to continue the use of Word and Excel. This keeps me compatible with my work-based files. I use OS/2 at work, but my machine there is of a different configuration with 16 mb memory so that probably makes a BIG difference. Where do I start, what can I expect with the above configuration, and would it be possible to try before I invest to check things like performance... I appreciate any advice / information and put my trust in the hands of experienced users. Thanks for your help in advance. Billp |
