The "bug fix" will only be a "minor upgrade". MS expects to ship the
win95 desktop patch for WinNT 3.51 by 4th quarter this year. WinNT 4.0 -
called Cairo - will be beta by decmeber of this year. According to what i've
been able to find out, the major improvement in the OS is is connectivity and
memory handling. It'll still require 16megs of RAM.

Also because of a new deal that Intel & HP have done MS ** DOSE NOT **
plan to support Win95 beyond the end of this year. The annouced deal is for
Intel and HP (this has already be underway for several months now) to write a
new 64-bit UNIX (note this) base OS for the new P7 chip that Intel is making.
At this point in time support for DOS & Windows 16 bit apps ** IS NOT **
included. And there are no plans to include it at all.
Ms has said this is fine and has started to prepare a 32/64 bit hybrid
of WinNT. Gates comment about this was "Good now we can finally get rid of
DOS & 16 bit Windows"

This is a wait and see proposition. While OS/2 is a nice OS unless they
can fix the difficulty with installs then they wil continuse to have a
problem. Also OS makers must remember, that the majority of computer owners
are not very computer literate and don't what to have to tweak their
software. They just want to put it in and have it run. The less they know
about the way a comnputer runs the better, at least thats what Joe & mary
6-pack think.....
