This is because Win95 is more effecient at loading program code. It doesn't load in the code to run the start menu until you hit the start button. That way, more ram is available for other programs. With win 3.x, it wasn't quite as smart. Also, when Win95 DOES need to swap, it doesn't swap program code out of ram onto the hard drive. It just overwrites it with new data. When it needs to read it back in again, it goes to the ORIGINAL exe to read in the code. So the swap file is used for DOS sessions, and program data storage. |
